Nuclear Magnetic Resonance

The dedicated NMR Facility houses research NMR systems for cardiac spectroscopy and MR imaging. Vertical bore, 9.4 T and 14.1 T magnet systems enable metabolic phenotyping and measures of metabolic flux in the intact, beating heart through on line detection and visualization of stable isotope kinetics. High resolution tagging of cardiac images enables distinction of transmural 2-D principle strains, within epicardial and endocardial layers of the left ventricle chamber wall. MRS enables in vivo determination of lipid storage in the heart for combined analysis of cardiac function.
