This inaugural T32 Cardiovascular Trainee Symposium was held July 23rd, and organized by a diverse and varied group of T32 trainees at different stages of training, including medical students, residents, graduate pre- and post-doctoral fellows, and subspeciality fellows at the University of Illinois in Chicago. It is our belief that this symposium truly highlights the commitment, passion, and hard work embodied by those in the T32 programs and the greater student body at this university. It furthermore demonstrates the impact that togetherness, cohesion, and solidarity can have on advancing scientific understanding and the betterment of our collective community. This year's topics addressed NIH funding disparities, diversity in academia, and early career advice for future academics and researchers. We are extremely fortunate and proud of our trainees for assembling a wonderful program including speakers and panelists from a variety of institutions, including some of the best from our own. This event would not have been possible without the support and guidance from the Center for Cardiovascular Research (CCVR), the Urban Health Program (UHP), and the Graduate College at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Special thanks goes out to T32 Trainee, Dr. David Tofovic, for MC'ing the day's event!
